WhatsApp has rolled out the feature that would now allow
users to send and receive messages, pictures or videos on their Windows
computers.
The feature is now available only for the Android users and is expected to roll out for the iOS soon.
While the new update is easy to use and will allow you to easily type
long messages on a keyboard besides staying updated even when your
phone is not near, there are some things that you should know. The web
feature is limited to specific areas.
You a need a compatible phone to use the new WhatsApp web app. All
the Android and Windows phones are supported. The feature is also
compatible with the Nokia S60 and the Blackberry products, except for
the iOS platform. Google Chrome is the suggested browser, because it
doesn’t have any compatibility issues and will work without difficulty,
because of being owned by Google. You can also try Opera and other
browsers but there may be slight technical issues.
WhatsApp will always be running on your phone
and the web based tool doesn’t create its own interface. It simply
mirrors the content that is being displayed on your phone. So, all your
messages and files will be there on your smartphone as well as your
phone. Your phone should be connected to the internet at all times in
order to receive and send messages besides doing other activities.
How to install it?
- Download the latest version of WhatsApp from the Google Play store. You should have it because the new web feature is available only in this build and it wouldn’t work with older versions.
- Open the Google Chrome browser. Type in and visit the link http://web.WhatsApp.com
- You will find an option in your mobile app named the WhatsApp Web in the menu bar. Click on it and open the QR code – reader.
- Scan it and your phone will instantly establish a connection with the web client. It will now start mirroring the messages and content that is being displayed on your phone.
Everything that you have been doing on the mobile version of the app
can be done on your PC. As a user, you will be able to send or receive
messages, send voice messages, emojis to your friends or family as well
as view your contact list to find new people to message to. More
features and bug fixes are expected soon.
